Standards for Christian Living *1* Submit to authority ?because God ordained it Romans13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 1 Peter 2:13-17 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. Romans13:1 Everyone must submit (Huppotasso-to be under obedience ) himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established (Tetagmenai- appointed, ordained ). The authorities that exist have been established by God. *2* Submit to Authority for protection ? 2 Consequently, he who rebels (antitassoo battle against, resist )against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. *3* Submit to Authority to be Free of Fear Verse 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. Verses 4,5 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. Gen 3:10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." Submit to Authority to be in Harmony with God Verses 6,7 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. Matt 17:25-27 And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?" Peter said to Him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free. Matt 22:21-22 And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
